Reductil (sibutramine) can be prescribed by your health care provider if you have been diagnosed with obesity and have trouble fighting the problems associated with eating less than usual, exercising and excluding certain foods from your diet. Before starting to take Reductil let your doctor know about the following health conditions in case of having them: gallstones, glaucoma, liver or kidney disease, anorexia nervosa, congestive heart failure, history of stroke, epilepsy or another seizure disorder, high blood pressure, bleeding problems, or heart disease.
Visiting your doctor is important as the decision about the dosage you will be started at should be made based on the assessment of your current health condition. You may be recommended to start from the lowest dose, and it will later be increased – approximately after a month of the treatment. Reductil should not be taken within 14 days from a dosage of a monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitor as dangerous side effects are likely to take place. Keep this medicine in a tightly closed container and keep it out of the reach of children and other people to whom it was not prescribed.
